Former Islamic Minister and popular religious scholar Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated there is a lot of work to be done to improve Maldivian society.

Shaheem said that human history proves that a nation that focuses only on amassing wealth without heeding the religious creed and social norms would fall.

Therefore, Shaheem stated that there is a lot of work to be done to improve Maldivian society and promote virtuous living.

Shaheem said this during a time when accusations have been made that in K. Maafushi, where local tourism is booming, things that are antithetical to Islamic society have become widespread.

There have been reports in the media allegedly based on accounts from citizens of Maafushi stating that unlawful activities like narcotic drugs, alcohol, partying and prostitution have become widespread there.
