Spokesperson of the President's Office, Miuvaan Mohamed has stated that steps have been taken for the ease of tourists in time for peak season.

Speaking at a news conference held at the President's Office, Miuvaan said that preparations have been made to be ready for peak season. And as such, when the peak season starts, things will be made easier for tourists at the airport.

Miuvaan said that the difficulties faced by tourists at the airport and Immigration and the like during peak season have been noted. And that even now, the relevant government institutions are taking measures to make things easier for tourists.

"Counters at Immigration have been increased. At the departure, there are 11 counters. But now 7 more have been added. While arrival has 14 counters, 12 have been added," said Miuvaan.

Furthermore, Miuvaan said that the 80 tourist counters at the airport have been changed and the airport layout has been rearranged to make things easier for passengers. And that six x-ray machines have been installed at the arrival and that they will be utilized starting from next December.

"Work on extending arrivals is at the stage in which the work will start as soon as the equipment gets here. So in the coming peak season, tourists will find a lot of ease at the airport," said Miuvaan.

The peak season of tourism starts next December. For Christmas and New Year, a large number of tourists visit Maldives.
