Opposition alliance PPM-PNC has proposed an amendment to the state budget for next year proposed by the government to the Parliament, lowering it to MVR 36 billion.

The budget projected for next year was initially a MVR 42.6 billion budget but the Budget Committee of the Parliament added an additional MVR 160 million to it, raising it to a total of MVR 42.8 billion.

A statement released by the PPM-PNC parliamentary group today stated that the budget for next year is a budget that would have devastating effects on the Maldivian economy. And that the budget was based on taking the money of the people and using it for political purposes.

Furthermore it stated that the parliamentary group has proposed amendments to the Budget Committee's report, lowering the budget to MVR 36 billion and adding MVR 297,474,863 to fishermen's subsidies to directly benefit fishermen. PPM-PNC called on all Members of Parliament to put political biases aside and support the amendments they have proposed for the good of the nation.

Voting on the budget is set for tomorrow's sitting in the Parliament.
