The law that previously banned foreigners from participating in local fisheries has been changed to allow foreigners to fish on local fishing vessels.

According to the previous law on fisheries, foreigners could only work on a fishing boat as security or as a chef. And only two could be allowed on one vessel.

With the new amendment to the law, foreigners can participate in fishing or do other activities, and the number of foreign workers on a vessel now depend on the size of the vessel.

As such, on vessels smaller than 15 metres no more than four are allowed. On vessels between 15 and 24 metres, the limit is six. And on vessels larger than 24 metres, the limit is eight.

The amendment also states that when it comes to the salaries and allowances of the foreign workers aboard local fishing vessels, the boat owners have to follow the Employment Law.
