Former chairperson of MDP "Reeko" Moosa Manik has stated that even when 17 years have passed for the largest political party in Maldives, MDP, someone who still has no goal other than presidency will not know MDP.

Moosa stated this referring to the president of the party Mohamed Nasheed.

Moosa said that the hard work done to form MDP and the difficulties faced would only be understood by those who worked on the streets and the Parliament to form the party.

Moosa stated that those who were with the party for the party then are still here with passion and that someone who had no goal except the presidency for 17 years will not know the party.

Moosa, who was a former leader of MDP's parliamentary group, stated that the last congress showed that the party is not something that revolves around one person. And that after 17 years, it was the leading common members who helped the party stand on its own feet.

Referring to Nasheed's faction in the divided MDP, Moosa said that no chance will be given to splitting up the party, which would make a mockery out of the common members who worked to form the party.

Due to conflicts of opinion between the party's leader President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the party president Mohamed Nasheed, the party has been divided into two respective factions. Both members have announced their candidacies in the presidential primaries.
