Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam has stated that during former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's presidency, nothing was done to save the country from the illegal drug crisis.

Rozaina said this speaking on a state media program. She said that, on the other hand, the current government is doing a lot of work to combat illegal drugs, including establishing rehabilitation centers and carrying out drug addiction treatment programs.

Furthermore, Rozaina stated that even in Addu City, illegal drugs are a huge issue. And as such, a treatment center has been established in Hulhumeedhoo for drug addicts. Rozaina said that everyone should work with drug addicts after they have been treated, to reintegrate them into society. And that they should be provided with good job opportunities.

"Having nothing to do within society is one of the reasons addicts get drawn back to drugs. And so, community reintegration programs are being run, jobs are being found, work is being done so that they see a future," said Rozaina.
