Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has stated that with MVR 23 million in damages, almost a thousand cases of scam have been reported.

CP Hameed said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Multi Agency Workshop on Combatting Scam in the Maldives.

Hameed said that the issue of scams is something that concerns the citizens, doing a lot of financial harm to them. And that so far this year 998 cases of scam have been reported and financial damages of these add up to about MVR 23 million.

According to Hameed, per the capabilities of the institutions, work is underway to combat scams, and this workshop is a great step in this direction.

The Commissioner said that cases of scam and fraud are high priority cases and that to speed up the investigation of such cases, a new investigation procedure has been established and police officers are being trained for this.

The Multi Agency Workshop on Combatting Scam in the Maldives is a workshop jointly held by the police and some other institutions on scams and economic crimes.

In the ceremony held today, in addition to the Police Commissioner, Home Minister Imran Abdulla and the leaders of various other government institutions participated.
