Former Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that market prices are so beyond reach that they "cannot even be reached on a ladder".

Because of the tax raise planned for the coming January, prices of certain items in the market are being raised. Regarding this, Maavashu MP and vice president of PNC Mohamed Saeed said taxes have drained the people.

Saeed alleged that the Spokesperson of the President's Office has been repeatedly asking for the aid of resort owners. And he criticized the President visiting Qatar to watch the World Cup while the country was in this state.

The President is visiting Qatar to spectate either the semifinal or the final match of the World Cup on an invitation from the Emir of Qatar. The ticket is being paid for by the President himself and not by the state, with the lodging and food being paid for by the Qatari government.

"What has happened to you, Mr. President? When will you get calm and start working?" asked Saeed.

The government has decided to raise GST by 8% and TGST by 16% starting January next year. It has stated that this decision was made to lower state debt and prevent an economic crisis due to raised oil prices and increased state spending and debt cos of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, and also to increase state revenue to be able to finance the nation's development.
