The national airline, Maldivian has raised the excess baggage fee in certain areas.

Maldivian released a statement saying that starting from today, for each kilo of excess baggage, USD 3.11 will be taken.

The excess baggage fee was raised for Maldivian airline travels in Maavarulu airport, Kooddoo airport and Kaadedhdhoo airport.

While Maldivian has raised excess baggage fee, starting from January 1 next year, TGST is going to be raised from 12% to 16%.

Local political parties have been criticizing the government for its decision to raise taxes and change subsidization rules. However, the international financial institution International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have praised this decision.
