PPM vice president Ahmed Shiyam has stated that opposition leader and former President Abdulla Yameen will not change his tune to work with Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed had recently suggested that he would work with Yameen. However, he has expressed his disapproval of Yameen's anti-India stance.

Speaking on a TV program, Naifaru MP Shiyam said that Yameen will not change his tune to work with Nasheed. And that Nasheed will eventually support Yameen's work against India.

Shiyam said that there are various things in the agreements between the incumbent government and India that concern the citizens. And that there will come a time when Nasheed will express the same concerns.

"If there is something that can harm Maldivians being done with India behind it or at the lead, he (Yameen) will speak about it. That is the difference. I do not believe that to work with Nasheed or to please Nasheed that Yameen will change his tune. He is a very nationalistic man. He will speak if there's a danger to the Maldives, to its independence, to its people. He will do anything he has to do for the people and the nation," said Shiyam.

Speaking during the Ask Speaker program of the Parliament, Nasheed had suggested that he would work politically with Yameen. Answering the question of a member of the public, Nasheed said that even in 2018 he had worked with former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. And that a policy of Yameen that concerns him is his work against India.

"We worked with former president Maumoon in 2018. Among former president Yameen's policies, there is one that concerns me a lot. That is the work being done against India. I hope a lot for that work to be stopped so that Maldives can work together with all the neighboring countries and we can find a way to work together for the progress of the nation," Nasheed said.
