Former Home Minister Umar Naseer has stated that the Maldivian state will be saved from the cancer of corruption by implementing Islamic Sharia.

In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day, former Home Minister Umar Naseer said the state can be saved from the cancer of corruption by enforcing the punishment of thieves under Islamic Sharia. He said that corruption has spread from the very top to the bottom of the state. And that the main task of political parties has become obtaining the key to the state treasury.

The punishment for thieves in Islamic Sharia is cutting off the hands.

While Umar has announced that he will contest in the coming presidential election, he has been advocating for the implementation of Islamic Sharia in Maldives.

Umar also said that for the past seven years, two governments have tried to accuse him of corruption. He stated that however, the attempt has failed and "the whiteness of the white bat has been proven".
