Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has stated that Dr. Ahmed Asim's election as Vice President of the United Nations' Human Rights Council is the result of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's strong foreign policy.

The Permanent Representative of Maldives to the UN Office in Geneva, Dr. Ahmed Asim was elected Vice President of the UN Human Rights Council yesterday. Regarding this, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid said last night that this is the result of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's strong foreign policy.



Shahid, who had been the President of the United Nations General Assembly, said Maldives would continue to uphold the ideals of human rights, democracy and rule of law.

Dr. Ahmed Asim was elected to the UN Human Rights Council among the four vice presidents elected by the council for next year.

Dr. Asim was appointed as the Permanent Representative of Maldives to the UN offices in Geneva in 2020.
