Fisheries Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has stated that this year alone 30 fish aggregation devices (FADs) have been placed.

Speaking at the special ceremony held last night on the occasion of Fishermen's Day, the Minister said that the highest number of FADs in local history were placed this year.

The Minister said that all the FADs that were part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's presidential vows have now been completed.

The Minister stressed the importance of processing fish in Maldives to produce various products in order to get a fair price for fish. The Minister also noted the government's efforts to develop the industry and reduce the duty paid on fish exports.

While the Minister has stated that 30 FADs have been placed so far this year, FADs are something used in the country to lower expenses in the fisheries industry.

As such, the Fisheries Ministry is doing a lot of work to further expand the FAD network.
