Former Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef has expressed concern that violence against women and children is not an issue in Parliament today.

Shidhatha expressed her concerns at a time when a case of a murder of a wife by her husband and a case of sexual assault of a child by their father have come to light.

Following the murder of a woman and the sexual assault of a child within two days, Shidhatha tweeted that no matter who the Gender Minister is, this issue should be resolved immediately.

Shidhatha said that the sad thing is that today these issues are not a concern of the Parliament.

While Shidhatha has raised concerns over the Parliament’s lack of concern over violence against women and children, she was previously removed from office when she was the Gender Minister after an incident at the children’s shelter.
