GA. Maamendhoo council held a meeting today on the beach to bring the problem of land erosion to the attention of the government. This is the first time a council meeting has been held in such a manner.

While all the councilors attended the council meeting held on the beach, the agenda of the meeting was the issue of erosion. In the meeting, the councillors talked about their concerns regarding the matter.

Among the things noted by the councilors, there was the issue of having to evacuate citizens in some areas based on how the land was eroding.

According to the council, as President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to visit the island on the 23rd and 24th of this month, the main purpose of having the meeting at the beach is to bring the erosion issue to the attention of the government before the President's arrival.

Various activities are always conducted on the beaches and sea to bring the environmental issues in Maldives to the attention of the government and international bodies. As such, during former President Mohamed Nasheed's administration, the first underwater cabinet meeting was held.
