Former President Abdulla Yameen's legal team has stated that the decision has been made to sue Misbah Abbas, a member of the Commission on Deaths and Disappearances (DDCOM).

The decision was made because Misbah had stated that Mohamed Munaz, Th. Omadhoo, who was involved in the disappearance of the journalist Rilwan, had met Yameen and was aided by Yameen in his escape to Syria.

In a press release, Yameen's lawyers said that Misbah had made baseless accusations. The statement said that this was a very low-level political stunt done to defame Yameen for the political gain of certain people.

President Yameen's legal team said they are preparing a defamation suit against Misbah. The team has said that they will take the necessary legal action.

Member of the Commission on Deaths and Disappearances, Misbah Abbas stated at a news conference yesterday that the suspect in the Rilwan case Mohamed Munaz had confessed to Yameen on how Rilwan was murdered, and the people involved without including himself. Misbah said that Munaz was sent to Syria with the help of then President Yameen.
