76 people have been injured in a fire in a building used by employees of India's Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. who are working on the bridge project.

The Police have stated that 76 people were seriously injured in a fire in an accommodation block in Gulhifalhu and are now being treated at the hospital. 63 of the injured are being treated at Treetop while another 13 are being treated at IGMH.

The Police have stated that 6 people were seriously injured in the incident and they learned of the incident at 12:36 am.

The incident occurred in a block where Afcons employees were staying in. Afcons said in a statement that more than 60 employees were injured and are being treated in the hospital, and that the fire is being put out.

The MNDF Fire and Rescue Service have stated that they received a report of the incident at 12:31 am. And that FRS firefighters had rushed to the scene and started extinguishing the fire as soon as they had received the report. The fire was extinguished at 1:52 am.

MNDF stated that the accommodation block, which houses 465 people, was completely burnt down in the fire.
