Speaker of the parliament, Mr. Mohamed Nasheed, said that as per the constitution, a 14-day notice will be sent to Home Minister Imran Abdulla following the request of a no-confidence motion against him, at the parliament.

A no-confidence motion against Minister Imran was requested at the parliament by the opposition party with 11 parliament members' signatures. As per Mr. Mohamed Nasheed, upon the end of the 14 day notice period, the request will get scheduled at the parliament for discussions and voting.

This no-confidence motion against Minister Imran comes following his statement regarding the safari rape case. Minister Imran has described the safari rape case investigation as a minor incident, for which vice leader of the opposition party PPM has accused Minister Imran of going against the constitution.

Opposition parties have stated that it is unacceptable for a person at a minister-level to do such a cheap act, and since it reflects on his competency as a minister, a no-confidence motion, against Minister Imran was requested at the parliament.

According to Parliament regulations, the submission of a no-confidence motion against a Cabinet minister requires the signature of 10 parliamentarians. It also requires a majority to vote to pass the motion, meaning the vote of 44 parliamentarians.
