Former President and current president of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed has officially announced that he will contest the party's internal primary for the upcoming presidential election.
Nasheed had not officially announced his intention to contest the MDP primary before. However, it has been revealed that he had formed a private WhatsApp group to start campaign activities with some senior party leaders who support him.
Nasheed made the official announcement in a tweet. He tweeted that he has decided to contest the MDP presidential primary and asked all party members to vote for him.
While Nasheed has officially announced that he will contest the primary, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had announced his candidacy before. However, President Solih has not yet officially launched his primary campaign.
MDP has now opened the opportunity to contest the primary. The primary will be held on the 28th of next month.
