The current ruling party, MDPs leader, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has officially launched his campaign for the upcoming MDP presidential primary.

Feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihad told Ras Online that a meeting with members of the MDP National Council at Salt Cafe Restaurant last night was held to announce the official launch of President Solih's MDP presidential primary campaign. Nihad said that the President spoke confidently at the meeting and that the President assured that he would not back down and would contest the primary and win.

“Almost everyone in the National Council who attended the meeting said they will support the President. The meeting was very successful with the support of Male' MPs, constituency members, constituency presidents, and all the people,” said Nihad.

Nihad said that President Solih would meet all members of MDP under his campaign for the presidential primary and that he would visit all the constituencies where he can.

“Even if the President is not able to visit, there will not be a single island in the country that the President’s campaign team will not visit, and there will not be a single member who was not met,” said Nihad.

Nihad said the campaign would continue strongly along with resuming MDP regular activities starting Thursday night. These activities include public gatherings, rallies, and traveling to islands to conduct such activities, said Nihad.

While President Solih has launched the primary campaign, former President Nasheed has also announced his decision to contest at the MDP presidential primary. The MDP primary is scheduled to be held on the 28th of next month.
