Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has advised those departing from Velana International Airport to arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure.

MACL said the queues at the airport are long now due to the holiday season. Therefore, to minimize delays, the company has advised arriving at the airport 3 hours before departure.

In addition, MACL requested all passengers to fill out the IMUGA form before check-in.

Since these days are peak season for Maldives, Maldives Immigration has increased the number of counters. Immigration has stated that 7 counters for departure and 11 counters for arrival have been added.

The government officially began the use of the new runway at Velana International Airport on October 6 to ease congestion during the peak tourist season. Previously, the runway could only be used for 8 or 10 flights per hour. However, with the new runway, the number of flights using the runway per hour will increase to more than twenty. The 10 minutes it takes to clear the runway after landing will be reduced to 2 minutes.
