STELCO's Managing Director Ahmed Shareef has stated that the company has decided to introduce scholarships and a housing scheme.

Speaking at the ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of the start of electricity services, STELCO MD Ahmed Shareef said that the company has decided to introduce a special scheme to help provide housing to those in need of it among the staff of the company.

"We will introduce a housing scheme for STELCO staff to help them find housing provided by other parties," said Shareef.

In addition to the housing scheme, Shareef said that discussions are being made to provide opportunities to study further in a field of choice of the company for two students who complete their higher secondary examinations.

Shareef said that Maldivians who will work in the energy sector should be produced in the future. And that STELCO is always working to produce more professionals in the field and will spend MVR 7 million annually to train Maldivians and improve the skills of employees.

"We are in discussions about offering the opportunity to study in a field chosen by us, STELCO, for two of the top-scoring high school graduates; a boy and a girl," said Shareef.

The ceremony marking the 73rd anniversary of electricity service in the country was graced by Vice President Faisal Naseem. The ceremony was attended by STELCO officials and a large number of its staff.
