The Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated that preparations are being made to dredge land for the construction of airports in three more islands in the country.

Aslam said this while speaking at the ceremony held in GDh. Dhaandhoo last night in celebration of the completion of the land reclamation project in the island. The Minister said that preparations are being made to dredge land for the construction of airports in three more islands in the country and that this work will be completed during this term. He added that airports are already being built in four regions of the country.

"We know how Maldives should develop. We have made the plans. Our policy is to decentralize. The country should be decentralized, atolls should be developed, services should be available in atolls. The ones who believe this are us," said Aslam.

Furthermore, Aslam said that the RTL ferry system which has been established to connect the islands of the country is a world-class work. And that the ferry system has so far carried 70,000 passengers and will be available in the four southern provinces by the middle of next year.
