President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that it is a shame to have to beg for electricity, and that it has been like this for so long because no previous government had worked to provide basic services.

The President said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the new power plant in GA. Nilandhoo today.

The President said that the government's biggest promise is to provide basic services such as electricity, water and sewerage to the people. And that he would ensure that basic services would be available in all islands by the end of his term.

The President said that it was a shame to have to beg people for the basic service of electricity. And that so far it has been so because no government had worked to provide basic services.

The President said that the government has provided generators to 144 islands so far. And that a total of 313 generators have been delivered to different islands so far and Fenaka office buildings have been completed in 46 islands.

"The work is underway in 64 islands. And plans have been made for 38 islands. A total of 146 islands are currently undergoing electricity service projects with power plants being developed and replaced," said the President.

The President said the development of electricity services during the COVID-19 pandemic was very difficult. But even in that difficult situation, the President noted that they were carried out by the efforts of Fenaka Corporation.

The President said that the biggest problem facing Nilandhoo is erosion and waste. And that the Planning Ministry will soon resolve the issue of erosion and the harbour, and that the waste issue will be budgeted for next year.

President Solih arrived in Nilandhoo after visiting Dhaandhoo in his official visit to three islands of GA Atoll. He is scheduled to visit Maamendhoo next.
