The Criminal Court has convicted former President Abdulla Yameen of the two charges raised against him accusing him of embezzling the money received from the sale of V. Aarah.

In the Aarah case, Yameen was charged with accepting $1 million as a bribe and laundering that money.

The prosecution has sought an eight-year prison sentence for the bribery charges against Yameen. And an additional eleven-year sentence for money laundering.

In addition, the prosecution also asked Yameen to be fined $5 million.

Yameen was bribed by former MP Yoosuf Naeem. Yoosuf was charged with bribery. He has also been convicted by the court.

Chief Justice Shakeel has stated that the hearing would be continued at 14:00 to speak on the punishment and that the judgment will be passed today.
