There is hope that things will go in the right direction this year, says the former President and the current Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed.

In a message to wish new year for the people people of the Maldives, he said that although there are many challenges, there is hope to put them aside and move the country in the right direction.

He said that the biggest challenge would be the change in tax rates from today, and that the people would have to suffer from the increase in prices due to the tax increase. He also noted climate change as a challenge that we are facing.

However, overall, their is hope to address the challenges and make things better, Nasheed said.

While President Nasheed has sent his New Year’s greetings to the people of the country, he has been working tirelessly to win the MDP ticket to contest this year's presidential election.
