The state appealed the Criminal Court decision on releasing the arrested council member of the opposition party, Peoples National Congress (PNC), at the High Court.
PNC council member Shaheeb Ibrahim was released when he was brought into court to extend his custodial period. Shaheeb was arrested through a special operation conducted by the Maldives Police Service, involving a 130kg drug bust.
Initially, the Criminal court decided to keep Shaheeb in custody following the evidence against him, and as per the Prosecutor General (PG), the extension to his custody was requested at the Criminal Court with more evidence against him as well.
PG decided to appeal the Criminal Court decision at the High Court following the Criminal Court decision to release Shaheeb even though evidence pointed against him.
Seven people have been arrested, from the special operations conducted on 12th October, busting 130 Kgs of drugs from a sea vessel in Hulhumale’.
