On Thursday night, the opposition party coalition called the government to stand up against the French efforts to denigrate Islam and the beloved Prophet (ﷺ).

In a statement released by the opposition party coalition, PPM, and PNC, condemned the publications of the caricatures of the Prophet through the French efforts to denigrate Islam and the beloved Prophet (ﷺ). Similarly, the opposition called the government to stand up against France.

Meanwhile, the statement released by the Maldivian government has expressed deep concern over the increase in aggression and provocative rhetoric towards the religion of Islam and the beloved Prophet (ﷺ). Maldives categorically condemns such acts and deem them as none other than hate speech. Maldivian government urged everyone to exercise respect and tolerance and resort to non-violent and non-provocative means in the exercise of their fundamental human rights. The Maldives remains committed to working with the international community to promote peace and tolerance.

The opposition party accuses the French President of supporting the aggression and provocative rhetoric towards the religion of Islam and the beloved Prophet (ﷺ), describing it as it was freedom of speech.

The opposition also accuses that similar acts of France are increasing to a concerning level in the Maldives.

The statement by the opposition party coalition gave assurance of full support in any action taken by the government to stand against France.
