MNP Vice President Ahmed Shareef (Cyryx) has stated that flight ticket prices will go down if tourism expands with airports.

Referring to the increase of ticket prices of Maldivian Airline tickets due to the raising of ground handling fees at Kaadedhdhoo Airport, Shareef said that the operating costs of Maldivian has grown higher due to the decrease in domestic flight traffic.

Shareef said that the price of domestic flights will decrease if the amount of beds were increased with each airport. And that then it would not cost USD 100 to travel to the farthest airport in Maldives.

"Maldivian Airlines' operating costs are higher because of the lower domestic flight traffic. If the amount of beds were increased with each airport, the price of domestic flights will go down. It will not cost USD 100 to get to the farthest airport in Maldives," said Shareef.

With the changes to ticket prices made by the national airline, Maldivian, MVR 180 has been added to the ticket prices for Kaadedhdhoo. And for other domestic flights, MVR 70 has been added.

With this change, a ticket to Kaadedhdhoo will now cost MVR 1692 including GST.
