Member of Parliament for Maradhoo constituency, Ibrahim Shareef, has stated that the only person who can compete with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the upcoming presidential election is former President Abdulla Yameen.
Shareef's remarks come at a time when MDP and PPM candidates, as well as candidates from other parties, are preparing for the upcoming presidential election.
Shareef said that the only person who could challenge President Solih in the election would have been Yameen. But since Yameen cannot contest the election due to his jail sentence, Shareef said that President Solih will win the election easily.
There are two candidates who have so far announced their intention to contest the upcoming presidential election. They are MDP's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and MNP's presidential candidate Mohamed Nazim.
While there were rumors that the Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim would contest the election, so far he has not made such a decision.
