Former MP Ibrahim Ismail (Ibra) has called on Maldives to welcome women migrating from Afghanistan.
Ibra's call comes amid reports in the international media that the human rights of women are being violated in Afghanistan.
Regarding this, Ibra said that Maldives' opening of the opportunity for Afghan women to migrate to Maldives would bring many benefits to the country.
“This will have economic and social benefits for Maldives as well,” said Ibra.
The United Nations recently called for an immediate reversal of the Taliban’s policies targeting Afghan women and girls.
The Taliban has tightened its policies against women and has now banned women from working in Afghan NGOs. The Taliban has previously prevented women from getting an education and going to various jobs.
