MTD has stated that three candidates have applied for the MTD ticket for K. Guraidhoo constituency in the parliament.

Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor’s party, Maldives Thirdway Democrats (MTD) today announced that three candidates have expressed interest in the party’s primary in the Guraidhoo constituency.

MTD has stated that the three candidates are all young people from K. Maafushi and that they have been asked to complete their legal forms and submit them to the party. The islands in the K. Guraidhpo constituency are Guraidhoo, Maafushi and Gulhi.

MDP, PPM and MNP have already announced their candidates for the by-election. PPM has nominated Hussain Riza, brother of the late Ibrahim Riza, as its candidate while MDP has nominated Ibrahim Shaz, president of MDP's Guraidhoo branch as their candidate. And MNP's candidate is Ali Arif of Fiyaathoshige, Guraidhoo.

The seat of Guraidhoo constituency became vacant following the passing of MP Ibrahim Riza, a member of PPM, on the night of 23rd last month.

While the Elections Commission has now opened the opportunity for those who wish to contest the by-election for the Guraidhoo constituency, the election will be held on the 15th of next month.
