The Jumhooree Party, JP has decided to contest the presidential election separately without a coalition.

The 151st council meeting of the JP held today approved the party's contest in the upcoming presidential election.

Along with the decision, the party ticket falls on to JP leader Gasim Ibrahim to compete at the Presidential Elections. The JP council also gave Gasim the power to form coalitions with other parties to win the election.

The decision of JP, included in the current ruling coalition, is expected to bring major changes to the political situation in the Maldives. Recently, many leaders in the political arena of the Maldives have held many discussions with JP leader Gasim as well.

The presidential election will be held on September 9, this year.
