The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated that the state has lost MVR 35 million due to corruption in the past three years, and only MVR 1.3 million has been recovered.

Speaking to state media, PSM, Anti-Corruption Commission Statistical Officer Aishath Manaal Khalid said that the commission had investigated 28 cases in the last three years. And that the commission found that the state had suffered a loss of MVR 35 million, and they had asked the relevant authorities to recover the money.

Out of the MVR 35 million lost to the state due to corruption, Manaal said that MVR 1.3 million has been recovered so far.

"Of the MVR 1.3 million, I want to point out that MVR 248657.70 was the amount returned to the state in 2022. I want to also point out that this is the highest amount recorded in a single year," said Manaal.

In addition to this, Manaal also said that an asset recovery officer has been appointed in the commission to recover the money owed to the state. And that the commission will strengthen its work and ensure that the state is recovering the lost money in accordance with the ACC directive.
