The government has stated that talks between the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on forming a coalition in the presidential election, are progressing well.

In addition to MRM, the President has invited JP, Adhaalath and MDA to form a coalition. Only Adhaalath and MDA have accepted the invitation so far. JP has decided to contest in the election separately. And MRM has not yet come to a decision.

Even today, the President has met with MRM's leadership. Spokesperson of the President's Office, Miuvaan Mohamed said that the President had discussions with MRM on the upcoming presidential election. And that the meeting went well.

However, Miuvaan said that no decision was taken at the meeting, and therefore further discussions will be held.

The presidential election is scheduled for September 9.

The ones who have announced their candidacy in the election are MDP presidential candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, PPM presidential candidate Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and MNP leader Mohamed Nazim. While JP has decided to contest the presidential election, it has not yet nominated a candidate.
