Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has stated that the obstruction of the President's motorcade was planned by the opposition party, PPM.

Shareef said this regarding the incident last night when the President's motorcade was obstructed by PPM supporters on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, near Artificial Beach. The motorcade turned around when the protesters obstructed its path.

Shareef said that the obstruction of the motorcade was planned by PPM. And that the obstruction of a President's motorcade should not be seen as part of a peaceful demonstration. He said that riots done in the name of protests should be stopped.

PPM members obstructed the motorcade of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the motorcade travelled near the PPM office in front of which PPM members were holding a protest. The motorcade was returning from Hulhumale' after the President attended the Rehendhi Award ceremony held there.

A video has been circulated on social media showing protesters obstructing the President's motorcade. The video shows the protesters blocking the President’s motorcade from the area where former President and PPM leader Abdulla Yameen's residence is located.

The protesters had breached the President's security and gone near the President's car and waved PPM flags near the car. The President's security and armed forces had acted to push the protesters back.

Since the opposition leader Abdulla Yameen was sentenced to 11 years in prison, protests have been held by PPM every night calling for his freedom. Most of the people arrested during the protests are released without trial.
