Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has stated that the government is regularly checking whether state companies are operating in accordance with the rules and regulations.

The Finance Minister said this in a written reply to a question by Maafannu Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed on the compliance of government companies with the rules of corporate governance.

MP Ibrahim Rasheed asked about the details of the criteria and rules that are used to check the compliance of companies with the Corporate Governance Code prepared for state-owned companies.

In his written reply to the question, Minister Ameer said that the corporate governance rule being followed by government companies is based on the entire code. And that the code is a "comply or explain" guideline and the Ministry is regularly monitoring the compliance of companies with the guidelines.

"Compliance with this guideline is checked and a Corporate Governance Review Report is prepared once a year and published on the Ministry's website," said Ameer.

According to the Finance Ministry, there are 32 state-owned companies.
