A resolution has been moved in Parliament calling for the reservation of important positions such as resort managers, human resource managers and accounts managers only for Maldivians.

The resolution was moved by the Member of Parliament for Kaashidhoo constituency, Abdulla Jabir.

Yacht Tours Chairman Abdulla Jabir said that the tourism industry has been in the country for half a century and yet foreigners are the ones filling important positions such as resort managers, human resource managers and accounts managers. Jabir's resolution said that therefore, the development of the human resources required for these positions within the local population should be given priority.

The resolution said it was important to debate in the Parliament about bringing an end to foreigners being in senior positions with high salaries in the tourism industry, and for the views of MPs on the matter to be revealed. In addition, the resolution stated that senior positions should be filled by locals.

The Parliament sitting today was dedicated to the presentation of this resolution.
