Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam has criticized the releasing of people, who commit violence against others without fear, after they pay a small fine.
Rozaina said this referring to the recent case of a man being arrested in GDh. Madaveli for physically assaulted a woman who was allegedly his partner. A video of the assault has been circulating on social media.
MP Rozaina said people dare to commit such inhuman acts without fear because they are released after paying a small fine. She said the video shows a dangerous person who is a threat to society and there is no further evidence to be sought in the case.
"Then don't just release this person after a MVR 200 fine. Here's enough evidence to see," said Rozaina.
The video shows a man taking a woman along on the street by force. Scenes of the man hitting the woman are also seen. The video also shows others following the two and trying to stop the man.
According to received information, the woman was treated for her injuries at the Thinadhoo Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital.
The Gender Ministry said today that the woman has been provided with the necessary legal protection. The Police have also stated that the case is being investigated.
