Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has stated that MDP president Mohamed Nasheed is trying to do to MDP what Maumoon did to DRP.
Referring to the "Fikurehge Dhirun" movement within MDP started by Nasheed, Shareef said today that it was an attempt to divide the party. He also accused Nasheed of trying to do to MDP what former President Maumoon did to DRP.
Shareef said that Nasheed is challenging the decision of MDP members, after his defeat in the MDP presidential primary, by joining hands with the opposition to try to end President Solih's presidency. Shareef said this shows President Nasheed does not believe in the rules of democracy.
"What Nasheed is doing in the position of president in MDP is very similar to what Maumoon did to crush DRP," said Shareef.
Shareef said that what Nasheed is doing with JP is done to hurt MDP. He described it as an attempt to take revenge on MDP's general membership.
The Maradhoo MP said Nasheed is interested in getting power, and that if someone else gets power, he wants to crush MDP. Therefore, Shareef called for immediate action against this.
After losing the MDP presidential primary to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Nasheed has formed a separate faction within MDP named "Fikurehge Dhirun". The former President has announced that he will not support the MDP candidate in the presidential election.
