Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has stated that people in the government appointed by the President can be removed from their posts if they do not fulfill their responsibilities and provoke the government.

Shareef's comments came after former President Nasheed said government positions are not given by the President himself. Nasheed said people are nominated for these positions by MDP and they cannot be removed by the President.

In response, MP Shareef said that despite what Nasheed said, people in political positions in the government can be removed from their posts if they do not fulfill their responsibilities and provoke the government.

"Whether it is an MDP member or a member of another party, they should be removed from office. They can be removed even if Mohamed Nasheed says they can’t be removed," said Shareef.

After the defeat of Mohamed Nasheed in the MDP presidential primary, Nasheed and his supporters have announced that they will not support President Solih in the presidential election. However, various politicians have said this is very undemocratic.

Even though Nasheed has said that the President cannot remove people in political positions in the government, according to the Constitution, the power to do so lies solely with the President.
