The High Court has scheduled to hear appeal against the order to pay $3,413,230 (MVR 53 million) in bribery and money laundering charges against former President Abdulla Yameen in the V. Aarah case.

The Criminal Court ordered the former President on the 26th of last month to pay the fine within six months. Yameen's legal team appealed the case to the High Court on the 14th of this month. The case was accepted in court yesterday.

The High Court has now scheduled the hearings to start on Wednesday.

In the Aarah case, the court sentenced Yameen to seven years in prison and fined USD 5 million on money laundering charges. He was also convicted of accepting a bribe and sentenced to four years in prison.

Previously, even in the GA. Vodamulaa rental case, he was sentenced to five years in prison and fined USD 5 million. However, the Supreme Court later quashed the verdict.
