Former MDP Chairman Reeko Moosa Manik stated yesterday that it will not be a difficult thing for MDP presidential candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) to get 135,000 votes in this year's presidential election.

Speaking to state media, PSM, former MDP Chairman and former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Moosa Manik said that President Solih would win this year's presidential election in a single round. He said it would not be a big deal for him to get 135,000 votes.

Moosa, who was the leader of the MDP parliamentary group, said MDP alone is expected to win 100,000 votes in the presidential election. He said even if MDP did not have former President Mohamed Nasheed's "Fikurehge Dhirun" team, which is working as a separate faction, the party would only lose 300 votes. Moosa said that the votes would be split between MDP and the main opposition party PPM. And that MDP will not lose any votes even if JP and other parties contest the election.

"As MDP's voter population, we saw 55,000 voters in the last primary. That was after losing 30,000 due to the change in the law. They have not been able to vote. They are MDP voters. I believe MDP has enough support to get 100,000 votes even with the party as it is. Next are the votes we will get from campaigns and the coalition partners. According to our calculations, getting 135,000 votes at once is not a big deal at all. That is, basing on the experiences from the campaign trips," said Reeko, who is at the forefront of President Solih’s presidential campaign.

In addition, Moosa said that every island in the country today sees major development works completed, and many projects underway. He said the people believe that President Solih has brought the development needed to all the islands of Maldives without any discrimination. It is a plus point for him in the presidential election, added Moosa.
