The government seems to have little interest in solving the drug problem, JP leader Gasim Ibrahim said today.

He made the remarks while debating on a resolution moved by MP Hassan Latheef to solve the drug problem in the country.

Gasim said the lack of doctors and medicines in the drug rehabilitation sector shows the government's lack of interest in solving the problem. At the same time, if the drug dealer can transit and escape, he will never be arrested, he said, adding that this is not the case in civilized countries.

Gasim also raised concerns on speaking against the government while discussing the issue, adding that it should be discussed and addressed to find a solution in parliament, rather than making a personal attack.

Speaking further, Gasim said that the Parliament Members are the ones who are holding the government accountable. Therefore, the members are speaking with the intention of improving the affairs of the state.
