The MDP Parliamentary Group's Komandoo Constituency Member Mohamed Rashid has said that the MDP President Mohamed Nasheed is now scoring own goals against the team after not being able to become the captain of the team.

Rashid said he does not know which chapter of the book of democracy that Nasheed's current actions are from, criticizing Nasheed's decision to support JP leader Qasim Ibrahim in the upcoming presidential election instead of the MDP candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The youngest Member of the Parliament, Rashid, said that Nasheed has turned his back on the party members by supporting another party's presidential candidate. And that MDP members have now determined the best captain for MDP.

"It is not the characteristic of leaders to score own goals, leave the team or become stubborn and move to the opposing team, each time they don't become the captain of the team. Such a person will never become the captain!" said Rashid.

After losing the MDP presidential primary to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, former President Nasheed has formed a separate faction within the party called "Fikurehge Dhirun".

Nasheed has announced that he will not support the MDP candidate in the presidential election.
