China's Ambassador to Maldives Wang Lixin has stated that Maldives will be one of the most visited countries for Chinese tourists in the May Day holidays starting on the 29th of this month.

The Chinese ambassador's comments come as many Chinese citizens are planning to travel abroad for the May Day holidays following the easing of COVID-19 related measures in China.

China has a five-day holiday from April 29 to May 3 to celebrate International Workers' Day on May 1. According to reports, a large number of Chinese people will travel abroad this holiday with the post-COVID travel relief.



According to Chinese media, a large number of people from China, which has a population of more than a billion, is expected to visit Maldives, Thailand and New Zealand during this holiday.

The Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Wang Lixin, too, noted that Maldives is one of the top favourite destinations for Chinese people during the holidays.

As of Thursday, the number of people in China booking May Day holiday trips has increased compared to 2019. Compared to last year, the number has increased sevenfold. The number of people booking flights abroad has also increased by 18-fold compared to last year.
