Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef (Addu Shareef) has stated the government that has done the most for the development of the fisheries industry so far is the current government.

Saying this government has made the largest investments in the development of the fisheries industry, Shareef highlighted a lot of things.

Shareef said work is underway to increase the capacity of Felivaru while the capacity of Kooddoo is being increased from 2,000 tonnes to 6,000 tonnes. In addition, he noted that four fish weighing vessels have been brought to the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).

Shareef said the biggest obstacle to making the best use of the Addu Fisheries Complex is the difficulty in entering the canal. To address that, he said President Solih's government is developing a jetty there to accommodate 3,500–4,000 tonne ships.

In addition, the Maradhoo MP noted that MIFCO was buying the fish caught by fishermen and exporting it in one way or another even during the global lockdown. He said this was done under the wisdom of President Solih and the instructions he gave to MIFCO.

Shareef said MIFCO had not paid MVR 39.5 million owed to fishermen during the Yameen administration. However, he said the government of President Solih has paid that money to the fishermen.

MP Shareef also said that the highest number of fish weighed by MIFCO in the past 15 years was last year. And that in the first four years of President Yameen's government, 128,099 tonnes of fish were bought from fishermen while this government has bought 219,816 tonnes of fish and paid MVR 3.72 billion to fishermen. Shareef noted that Yameen's government has given only MVR 2.34 billion to fishermen in 5 years.
