Ministry of Tourism's State Minister Ahmed Salih said yesterday that the Hankede project will make the entire Addu City a completely new region.

Speaking on a programme on Raajje TV last night, Tourism Ministry's State Minister Ahmed Salih said this project will make Addu City a completely new region and the project will change the tourism industry in Addu as well as the entire country.

Salih said that the Hankede project will be a different concept in the tourism industry and will include different categories. He said that the project will include hotels and three different levels of rooms. And that the project will also introduce real estate tourism and both foreigners and locals will be able to buy apartments and villas there.

"Under the project, there's a theme park available to the public. No resort has provided such services. Hotels, resorts, villas and apartments combined. That is the difference," said Ahmed Salih.

In addition, Salih said that 1041 rooms will be developed in Hankede with a total of 2082 beds. And that 2 grand hotels, 2 deluxe hotels, 10 boutique hotels, 17 beach villas, and 64 serviced apartments, as well as restaurants, shopping areas, a water park, and sports and recreational facilities will be developed.

"We are now expecting to open in about two years in 2025. This is a very important project under the new diversify programme. It is a very ambitious project and God-willing, it will be successful. In terms of US dollars, it is a USD 142 million project, in terms of Rufiyaa, a MVR 2 billion project. God-willing, the finance for this project is in place. The size of the island is 9.6 hectares," said the State Minister.
