Mauritius' case against Maldives over marine territory is scheduled to be decided on the 28th of this month.

The East African island nation had filed a complaint with the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. The tribunal concluded its hearings on the case last year.

ITLOS said the hearing of the tribunal's decision is scheduled for the 28th of this month. The hearing will be broadcast live.

As this case was in the tribunal, many Maldivians have criticized the Maldivian government's decision to vote on the side of Mauritius in the Chagos Islands issue in the UN General Assembly. However, the government assured that even if Maldives changed its stance and voted for Mauritius in that issue, it would not affect the case in the tribunal.

The government said it has not changed its stance on the case in the tribunal. The Prosecutor General's office made a statement that the case in the tribunal and the case in the UN General Assembly are two different cases.
