An Indian man living in Maldives has tested positive for malaria.

The Indian national, who has been in Maldives since January this year, tested positive for malaria last week after consulting a doctor. Malaria is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes.

Regarding this, the Health Protection Agency said that although a case of malaria has been reported in Maldives, there is no risk of the disease spreading. HPA said the infected person is being treated.

The World Health Organization (WHO) had declared malaria as eradicated from Maldives.

Maldives is the first WHO member country in South Asia to eradicate malaria.
